The Samling Hotel
Set amongst 67 rolling acres at the northern end of Lake Windermere, The Samling Hotel, dating back to the late 18th century and once owned by Wordsworth’s landlord, retains it's stately country manor feel while being perfectly secluded. Tall windows framed with ruched curtains, lounges filled with armchairs, an open fire and walls decorated with watercolours.
A cosy hotel with just five bedrooms in the main house plus six cottage suites around the grounds, all different yet filled with tartan and gingham fabrics and slate and taupe. Our room, Grasmere, takes pride of place at the front of the house with three windows offering views over Lake Windermere that are perfect to wake up to.
The Michelin Star Samling restaurant serves a tasting menu that includes a plant based tasting menu option. Tucked on the corner of the property, the full length windows look out to Lake Windermere with each table perfectly positioned for a special experience. Food can be paired with wines and each course will be explained to you in detail throughout your meal. The restaurant takes it’s inspiration from the environment around the hotel and its development kitchen where meticulous dish research and creation takes place.
The hotel is more low-key than you might expect, without many services or facilities but this all helps to make this a perfect spot to relax and unwind after a long day of walking and a little haven of peace away from the bustle of city life.
