The Leela Palace New Delhi

The Leela Palace New Delhi, one of the most luxurious hotels in town, is designed exactly as a modern day Indian maharaja would wish. Everything within the almighty marble building is mirrored, embroidered, gilded and filled throughout with flowers. This purpose-built hotel consists of elegant interiors that combine traditional and modern Indian and European decor, from the Venetian chandeliers to the 14,000 blooms of flowers delivered daily.

Location

In the heart of Delhi’s leafy diplomatic enclave, the Leela Palace New Delhi sits amid a sea of greenery that is far from the bustling, busy image that many have of Delhi. Take in the tree-top views from the rooftop pool and bar. And at around thirty minutes to the airport, it is an ideal base for any short city trips.

Rooms

The 260 rooms and suites are considered to be the largest in the city. Decorated opulently in rich creamy shades, heavy silks and mahogany furniture. Everything is controlled from an iPod and the heavy windows make for a perfect nights sleep.

The marble bathrooms are equally spacious with walk-in showers and a separate bath, complete with its own TV screen.

Dining

From Italian fine dining at Le Cirque, sushi and Megu, North Indian specialities at Jamavar, there really is something for everyone. I didn’t eat in the hotel as I was so excited to explore the city, but we did come back to check out the Library Bar, dimly-lit and crafting cocktails to perfection.

Breakfast is served in Qube, a two-story glasshouse with a lavish buffet. Sit outside enjoying the hotel garden where you will easily forget you are in the heart of India’s capital city.

Rooftop

The rooftop pool area makes for a welcome afternoon escape after a day of exploring the streets of Old Delhi. As one of the tallest buildings in the area, the views stretch across the city. The pool is maintained at 26 degrees celsius, which I learnt, is a little chilly for my tropical body.

Yoga mats are available in guest rooms and I found coming to the rooftop for yoga at sunrise was the perfect way to start the day.

Spa

The ESPA spa and is both lavish and serene. I didn’t have time to try it this time, but having had a look around, I’ll be sure to stay longer next time.
