Cap Rocat

The luxurious Cap Rocat, a former 19th-century military fortress, hidden on a cliff in a peaceful pocket of Palma bay, has been imaginatively transformed while maintaining the air of discretion from it’s bygone days as a key Spanish fortress. Elements of it’s defensive days remain; a drawbridge, bunkers and trenches artfully converted into suites with private patios and terraces.

As is the nature with forts, it’s invisible from the sea, but the labryinth of tunnels, turrets and courtyards lead you to explore the nooks and crannies that have been carved out from the rock. Vistas originally intended for cannons now provide the backdrop for this exceptional hotel, an unparalleled haven of peace, offering its guests complete privacy.

A short 25 minute drive from Palma leads you to the magnificent palm-lined entrance. Situated on the edge of a nature reserve where Cap Rocat sits on its own private peninsula with panoramic views to the bay. No nearby properties mean it’s just the sounds of the sea and birdsong to provide the soundtrack to your stay.

Just 30 rooms in the vast fortress space add to the feeling of calm and privacy throughout the property. The atmospheric rooms in neutral shades are offset by arched ceilings, soft textiles and monochrome images of Mallorca. Relaxing private terraces are the setting for breakfast to be served in your room each morning. Scented candles, room fragrance and flowers add that special touch. While the straw hat and beach bag form essential accessories for relaxing in the sun.

A small fleet of golf buggies is on hand to shuttle you around should the blissful relaxation have gone straight to your legs. For the more adventurous, bicycles are available to explore all that the fortress has to offer.

Start your day with yoga or pilates at the infinity pool overlooking the bay, where the sea breeze instantly calms your mind and sets the tone for your day ahead.

Breakfast is brought to your private terrace each morning at whatever time suits you where a wide range of options can be chosen from or if you’re feeling more adventurous, go for the ‘surprise menu’ and let the chef decide.

Lined with comfy white sunbeds and your own ‘press for service’ button, the infinity pool is the perfect space to relax away your day. Hedge rows give privacy between you and your neighbour and the views ahead to the Palma bay are exactly what is required for a tranquil day of sunning.

The sumptuous spa is housed in a former water deposit where the original feature has been retained and creatively forms the long and lean seawater pool. Take an indulgent Hammam Ritual with hot steam, deep cleansing and massage with aromatic scents.

The fitness area is open 24-hours where personal training sessions can be arranged during the mornings.

A small sandy beach area has been created with direct access to the sea. It’s a far stretch to call this a beach and due to regulations, the coastline can be used by the public, but it’s still a nice spot to relax next to the water.

The Sea Club restaurant, located in an idyllic spot next to the water, is the place for a relaxed lunch with a glass of white wine watching the boats sail past. Local fresh food is prepared on a traditional Mallorcan wood grill including some delicious vegan options. In the evening, the restaurant is lit up by candles and subtle lamps giving the most Mediterranean feel as the sun goes down behind the sea ahead.

The more formal restaurant, La Fortaleza, serves a tasting menu that takes you on a journey through Mallorca. Evenings here kick off with an aperitif on the terrace above the main Cap Rocat courtyard with a front row view to the pink and golden tones of the setting sun. Make sure to taste some of the local Mallorcan wines that can be recommended by the maitre d’ that will leave you wondering why these wines are not more popular away from this tiny island. The seven course feasting menu is creatively put together using the freshest local ingredients to really show off the best of Mallorca’s cuisine.

All that is left is to unwind into the comfiest bed for one of the best sleeps of your life ready to wake up recharged and ready for another day of pure relaxation courtesy of Cap Rocat.
