Yoga in Tulum

Tulum has a spiritual soul. It's dotted with eco-conscious retreats making it a haven for mind and body healing and you just can’t visit without at least giving yoga a try. It’s packed with yoga spaces but here are my very special spots that help you zen out and flow down.

Azulik Maya Spa

In my opinion, this is the most beautiful yoga shala in Tulum. From the spa, take a mysterious wander through the jungle, step on stones over water, weave through the green plants and eventually you will arrive at a small walkway leading to an enormously beautiful wooden shala. There is no space that feels more authentically 'Tulum' and allows complete reconnection with your soul. Classes are at 8am each morning or can be organised privately through the hotel.

Yaan Wellness Energy Healing Spa

Treetop yoga at Yaan Wellness Spa is another special Tulum yoga experience where classes are held overlooking the beautiful Mayan jungle. It’s a real luxury yoga experience with mats and props set up for you and the best facilities you can dream of. Classes are held in the morning and at sunset each day varying between Hatha and Vinyasa Flow, where teachers bring their customised experience to make classes welcoming for students of all levels.

Nomade

Set on the white sandy beaches with the wind blowing through your mindful practice, this is a great spot for your morning flow. The hotel is human-centred, a space for those ready to learn, share and awaken their soul, where personal transformation is encouraged. Classes are in different styles each day including Vinyasa and Kundalini as well as workshops and talks from shamans and healers.

The Beach Tulum

Once you’ve mastered the confusion of a place on the beach called The Beach, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the treetop palapa shala just steps from the beach that awaits your yoga practice. A beautifully created large wooden shala, open on the sides allowing the wind to blow and the sun to shine in. Classes are held each morning at 8.30, Monday & Saturday classes are led by Dee who will really make your yoga soul shine.

Maria del Mar

On a raised terrace overlooking the crashing Tulum waves, there is no better way to get you ready for a Tulum beach day than with a class in the sunshine. Classes here are a little later at 9.30am but are often quiet, I even had my own 1-to-1 session to flow to my hearts content.

Alaya

Yet another beautiful Tulum shala just steps from the beach, Alaya Tulum has the feel of being in a tropical garden with green shades and the sounds of exotic birds to guide your session. The palapa setting with a painted mural on the floor adds the special Tulum vibe. Classes here are held in the morning and around sunset. They also offer a range of special events, I joined one of their Sound Healing Ceremony’s, held on Tuesday evenings, which take you on a journey with African harps, frame drums, Tibetan bowls, Peruvian charango, flutes, rattles and chanting. It’s a very special experience not to be missed.

Sanará

Sanara’s yoga studio faces straight out to the turquoise Caribbean sea. Classes are held at 8.30, 10.15 and 17.00 with a wide range of styles offered by different teachers. Vibrational Sound Healing is held here on Wednesday evenings with the room lit by candles and the journey led my the incredible vibrational sounds from crystal bowls to range of gongs and so much in between.

Yoga Shala Tulum

As the name suggests, Yoga Shala Tulum is all about the yoga. They have a really wide range of classes throughout the day from Vinyasa, Hatha and Power to Kundalini, Gong Baths, Oils workshops and Dao of Yoga. The space is beautiful, a wooden shala that gets lit up from the sun shining around it, with a peaceful air running through the setting.

Ahau Tulum Yoga & Spa

Ahau Tulum is right on the beach with daily yoga and meditation classes looking out onto the stunning Tulum shores. Classes are at 9am with a candlelit session on Wednesday nights. They also have a range of other events such as Meditation, Kundalini, Essential Oils workshops, Aerial Yoga, Sound Healing and Temazcal. Check out the chalkboards to find out whats on.

Amansala

Amansala is a wellness focused beach resort that offers retreats year-round. Along with sister property Amansala Chica, there are three yoga shalas to try out located on the beachfront or amongst the trees with classes each morning at 8.30 and 5pm.

Holistika

Holistika is a magical sanctuary tucked away in the heart of the Tulum jungle. Finding the shala involves weaving your way through the gardens with the whole setting having a healing, retreat-like vibe to it. There are classes throughout the day with a variety of styles, but be sure to check the schedule first, some classes are more fitness workout which isn’t for everyone. After class there’s a beautiful cafe to take time out to reconnect in the middle of the jungle and with a menu that’s full of vegan options, it’s hard not to.

HA SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) Yoga

What’s more fun than practicing yoga on a paddle board!? You also get to discover a lagoon in one of the most beautiful spots in all of Tulum. Your session 75 minute yoga lesson will be one of the most fun yoga classes you’ll ever have and will probably involve you falling in a few times. It’s a great experience and a very special place to give it a try. You'll have time after to paddle in the lagoon and enjoy some delicious Mexican snacks.
